If you look at the history of my posts here on the forum, you'll note that i generally do not involve myself in the political back-and-forth that is par for the course when living in this country, and actually living anywhere for that matter. Nor am i a student of political systems as they exist today in the world, or in any way a water-cooler philospher when it comes to the political divide. However, this is not to say that i don't try to keep my ear to the ground, or that i am unobservant of what's what and what's going on. If anything, i am distrustful of any large body of power, whether it be political, business, non-profit, or commercial, or whatever. Although, i am not so insane (yet) to just go off into the woods and build my cabin and remove myself from society. There are questions that need to be asked, and issues that need to be addressed, but i fear that we are a country of lemmings and sheep, just happy to go with the flow, and i am as guilty regarding this as some, not most, but some. I also live in one of the more politically corrupt, highly taxed, heavily burdened by welfare handouts, and inept states, Rhode Island. I don't like it, but unfortunately i have invested money and time here, not to mention that i have kin in the area, and i could never turn my back on family, or friends for that matter.

Anyhow, this film is not for the light hearted. A very close friend of mine purchased fifty copies of this film this week. That's right, FIFTY copies. He just dropped down a grand and didn't think twice. He's bringing me my copy some time this week, and once i figure out how to copy a DVD, i will send to any and all who ask.

[on a side note, Nick Nolte looks like someone beat him with a bad bottle of scotch right before he drank it]

I know.. I hate that I don't know enough to really speak of this corruption, and then these psuedo-pedagogue's try to verbally trample over me when i say things are corrupt.. The truth is, most people have no idea what is -really- going on.

Thanks Arbuthnot for sticking your neck out on this one. Although I know many here on the forum are Repub voters, or Libertarian, etc. this issue isn't about left or right. None of us here want our freedoms taken away, and, as Deadheads and Jerry lovers, I think it safe to say we are ALL pro-arts and anti-fascist.
Bush and the rest of the puppets you see on TV aren't even worth debating about or focusing on. They're not the ones really in power - the faces you almost never see. Who am I talking about??
1. Old Boston, Virginia, etc. big money families that go back decades and centuries.
2. People that sit on boards of directors, forever.
3. People that go back and forth from the CIA, to corporate "advisor" jobs, then to cartels like the Carlyle Group (James Baker) then back to govt. "service".
4. Think tanks like the Rand Corp.

and so on. Most of these types stay in Washington, or in positions of power for decades - no matter who's in the White House. Ditto for many intelligence agenices like Naval Intelligence and the DIA.
These are the ones running the show folks. Nothing mysterious about it, just rich, evil greedy people using the corporate social economic system (Mussolini first termed the perfect fascist state as the Corporate State) as well as the military to grab and keep as much power and money as possible. Because they know it's almost gone.
Is Fascism possible in this country? Yes. Likely soon? No, at least I'm not that pessimistic. But to believe that it can't happen here is the height of folly and irresponsibility.
I don't have all the answers, but I know many of them, for me have already been answered since the 70's.
1. Be as self-sufficient as possible.
2. Disconnect from the corporate world as much as possible,
ie. no credit cards.
3. Have a skill you can barter with or a trade that can make
you an income.
4. Buy less, live simply.
5. Learn how to do real, self-sustaining skills like repair
a car, grow food, make clothing, alternative health care.

In my heart of hearts, I do believe this Dark period is about to pass. I believe the door has been opened again, a crack, and light is peeking through.
If I spent all my time thinking about what COULD happen, and I've done a LOT of conspiracy (I prefer historical) research, I'd go completely paranoid nuts. Because I know what kind of world these guys WANT me to live in. I just keep hope alive that it's not gonna happen.
I do have a cabin in the woods though, off the grid and with a clean water supply. Just in case.

But remember - Jerry, Ken Kesey, John Lennon, George Harrison, Alan Ginsberg, Hunter Thompson and Bob Marley are all on our team, up there on the Astral Plane now. And who's to say they're not pulling some strings too??
Peace folks,
Dr. Flashback :-)

Thanks doc for the support, these are serious issues for anyone living in these here states, this ship of fools we are mere cabin crew and bilge muckers on. And yer so right about the Bushes and similar types, mere puppets to those who really pull the strings and call the shots, big picture and small picture alike, national and local, it's all the same, greed, corruption, the evil hand in an evil hour taking what is not rightfully (or even lawfully) theirs.

However, like yourself, i try to keep a degree of optimism about me, but alas, it seems that that demeanor and frame of mind are continually eroded and chipped away at the more i delve into the black mire of the various institutional processes that run this country. If anyone thinks for even a minute that your fave politico cares one iota about you as an individual, you are sadly mistaken.

Take my advice: toss out your television (the worst mind-corrupter ever invented), cable is the new Satan; pay off your credit cards and shred them forever (haven't had a credit card in seven or eight years) and i get by perfectly fine thank you very much; read anything printed by the major media with a serious grain of salt, find alternate sources for your news, question everything, believe nothing; enjoy sports and other mind-numbing activities with a degree of levity and distance, i.e., if most of your wardrobe depicts a sports logo or team, you are probably already lost anyway; be highly careful with any personal/financial information; practice a healthy skepticism; and yes, as the wise doctor says, cultivate a skill that you can transfer/sell anywhere on the globe and be self-sufficent as much as you can.

Just my two pence for whatever it is worth.

Can you give me a brief summary of which activities besides (apparently) sports are "mind numbing", and please specify if knowing arcane GD trivia qualifies? I mean, some of my wardrobe does in fact depcit a sports team...and some depicts a Steal Your Face logo. Should I be wary of both? Please help.

sorry when I saw your subject I thought this was a post about Chris Freedom.

All kidding aside, I'm really interested in taking a look at this. What's with Nick Nolte thought? Who does he think he is, Kid Creole?
